Audio Normaliser

Audio & Video

Normalise loudness to a real ITU-R BS.1770-4 target — YouTube, podcast or custom LUFS — for an audio file or a video’s embedded track.

Measured against a real standard, not a volume slider.

This measures integrated loudness per ITU-R BS.1770-4 — the same measurement YouTube, Spotify and podcast platforms normalise against — not a naive peak or RMS scaling that gets the number wrong for anything with quiet passages or a wide dynamic range.

The safety limiter here works on the exact sample peak, not the true (inter-sample) peak BS.1770-4 also defines — a smaller, honest scope. If avoiding clipping meant backing the gain off, the result can land a little under the requested target rather than risk clipping, and that is called out below when it happens.

Target loudness

The ceiling is the loudest a sample is allowed to get after the gain is applied — leave headroom under 0 dBFS rather than right at it, since encoders and playback chains downstream can add their own small overshoot.

How it works

1Drop in an audio file, or an MP4/MOV video to normalise its embedded audio.
2Pick a target — YouTube/streaming, podcast, quiet podcast, or a custom LUFS value.
3Set a peak ceiling so the gain applied never pushes a sample over it.
4Audio files download as a normalised WAV; video files remux back into the original MP4 with the video untouched.
